No problem in the app on my mbp. Start at the newest message and mark the conversation as read. I cannot figure out how to mark all unread items in channels as read without clicking on each channel. Web to mark all messages as read in every channel, hit shift+esc. You can also scroll to the bottom of the unreads view and click mark all messages read. This can help if you want to quickly mark a bunch of channels as “read”, but it also means that if you have to look away into a different channel before you catch up in the current one, you lose your place.
